BIO-X is a chemically-defined medium enrichment, used as a growth factor, for the isolation and growth of fastidious organisms. BIO-X is recommended for Chocolate Agar and Thayer-Martin Agar, which are prepared with hemoglobin instead of whole blood, for the isolation and growth of Neisseria gonorrhoeae and Neisseria meningitidis.

STORAGE
BIO-X is available in a solution form and should be kept between -20º C et + 8º C in the dark. BIO-X Supplement is shipped with a minimum 2 months dating. Freezer temperatures are recognized as being more stable than refrigerator temperatures. BIO-X is frozen when shipped but may be re-frozen if thawed during transport.


PREPARATION
In the preparation of Chocolate Agar, aseptically, add the contents of one 10 ml vial of BIO-X to 1,000 ml sterile GC-hemoglobin mixture, cooled to 45-50º C. If preparing a selective medium for Neisseria gonorrhoeae and Neisseria meningitidis, also add a vial of V.C.A.T. Supplement (8620) or other supplement.


QUALITY CONTROL
PHYSICAL ASPECT
Solution is clear or slightly opaque with a pink color. When kept in the dark, color is stable. When exposed to light, color may disappear, but will not affect performance.
